Ulverston’s Barton Townley Cup final preparations were disrupted by a trio of injuries in their 42-20 home defeat at the hands of Blackbrook in Division One of the North West Men’s League last Saturday.
James Porter was taken to hospital with a head injury, undertaking a CT Scan and x-ray that thankfully revealed no serious damage, while Howard Rowley broke a thumb and Mark Wilkinson picked up a broken ankle.
Ulverston’s tries came via Marc Storey, Matt Dean, Andrew Benson, and Steve O’Connor, with two goals from Connor Saunders.
Hindpool Tigers’ on-off game with Bury Broncos in Division Two finally went ahead at the last minute, but it resulted in a 42-12 home defeat.
Walney Central lost out 26-18 at Heysham Atoms in the Premier Division, with Andy Litherland making a try-scoring return after spells with Barrow and Workington. Cents’ other scores came from Jordan Staffieri, Dave Warne and Declan Gavin.
Barrow Island went down 32-22 at Conference Division Two leaders Ince Rose Bridge in a match where trailed 28-6 before staging a comeback to 28-22, but a late try sealed their fate.
Matty Brown crossed for his first senior try while Aiden Wright, back in the fold after long-term injury, also touched down along with Blain Marwood and Dan White.
Askam were narrowly defeated 13-12 at home by Beverley. The Humbersiders led 12-0 prior to Owen Bridle touching down, but a drop goal eased matters for Beverly before Sam Broadley crossed in the final minute.
In Division Three, Millom went down 30-18 at Leigh East A. Astin Mossop crossed for his maiden try, with Dom O’Brien and Noah Robinson also touching down.
