WALNEY Island shone amid the gloomy weather on a day when nearly all of the matches involving the area's teams fell victim to waterlogged pitches.
The West Lancashire League Division Two derby clash at Tummerhill saw Walney triumph 6-1 over Furness Rovers, closing the gap on them to one point with the hosts having a game in hand.
Zach Walker scored two for Island, while Matt Lockley, Ben Tiffney, Kieran Dolloway and Chris Malone fired home the rest.
Only one game survived in the Furness Premier League, where Premier Division title-chasers Kirkby United drew 2-2 away to Haverigg United.
Scott Watkinson and Jack Gardner on target for Kirby, snf John Chmiel and Paul Barker replied for Haverigg.
