Barrow AFC have bolstered their goalkeeping department by signing former Hull City stopper Johnny Saltmer on a deal until the end of the season.
Saltmer was released by the Tigers at the end of last season and has since been training with a number of Football League clubs, so fitness will not be an issue for him.
The 20-year-old helped Hull’s academy side reach their first ever Under-21 Premier League Final in 2015/16 and gained first-team experience during loan spells at North Ferriby United and Cleethorpes Town last season.
Saltmer will provide competition for Joel Dixon for the rest of the campaign and has been given the Bluebirds’ No.1 shirt. He will be available for Saturday’s National League match at Barnet.
AFC manager Ian Evatt has been looking for goalkeeping cover since Andy Firth made a surprise move to Scottish giants Rangers in January.
He previously signed teenager Brad Wade on loan from Rochdale, only for him to be recalled by the League One side after one game as an unused substitute.
