ULVERSTON are waiting on news as to whether Joe Hambley will be cleared to play for them in tomorrow’s Barton Townley Cup tie at home to Walney Central (kick-off 2.30pm).
Hambley is taking a year out from the professional game with Workington Town and has moved to Dragley Beck.
Ulverston head coach Dennis Porter, who has taken over from Phil Atkinson, has options if he cannot play, but is optimistic Hambley will get the green light.
“Joe is back training with us and we are waiting clarification from the RFL for his clearance,” said Porter. “Hopefully he will get the green light. If not, Johny Hutton will start on the wing.”
Brad Williams (shoulder) and skipper Matty Storey (leg) are injured, but the hosts welcome back the foursome from Askam.
“It’s good to have the lads returning from Askam as they will boost the squad,” said Porter. “We have had some good sessions in the build-up with at least 30-plus lads at training.”
Walney are without Mike Elliott (whipalsh) and Matty Holmes (leg) who were injured in the 52-4 win at week at Kinlsey Hotel Raiders in the BARLA National Cup.
Stu Tippett, Brad Nichols, Johny Corkill, Adam Ford and Adam Nicholson are in contention though.
Joint-coach Dave Warne said: “Ulverston will be a tougher opposition with the lads coming back from Askam, so it should be a good game.”
