JACKSON Round helped Vickerstown start off 2019 in style with a 3-0 home win over Burscough Richmond in the West Lancashire League Premier Premier Division.
Round helped himself to a brace and young Tom Dawson marked his first-team debut with a goal. The Result means Dave Round’s side are sixth in the league with games in hand on most teams above them.
In Division One, Askam United were soundly beaten 7-0 at home by high-flying Lytham Town,
Crooklands Casuals made the short trip to Ulverston Rangers and drew 1-1 as a late, late Daniel Sharpe equaliser cancelled out Sean Mooney’s penalty.
Another derby saw Walney Island show a ruthless streak in the first half against Furness Rovers, with Zach Walker, Matt Lockley and James Bailey all scoring in a 3-1 win.
Reece Vaughan scored late on for Rovers, who also hit the bar in the second half, while Ryan Barker saved a penalty for the hosts.
Dalton United made the trip to league leaders Horwich St Mary’s Victoria and were only denied a win in the 90th minute after two Keith Holmes goals had put the visitors 2-1 ahead earlier in the game. Furness Cavaliers lost 4-0 away at bottom side Longridge Town reserves.
Holker Old Boys lost 3-0 at home to second-placed Avro in North West Counties League First Division North.
In the Furness Premier League Kirkby United stayed top of the Premier Division. after a resounding 14-0 win away at Furness Cavaliers reserves.
Matty Bruce, Sam Pinnegor and Huw Barton all grabbed hat-tricks, Connor Saunders helped himself to a brace, and Mike Fugler, Joe Kavanagh and Scott Watkinson were also on target.
Second-placed Bootle picked up three points too after a 3-2 win against Swarthmoor Social, but hey were made to work for it as Swarthmoor were 2-0 up thanks to a double from Luke Armstrong.
Steve Pritt, Graham Hartley and and Connor Nuttall secured the points after Swarthmoor also missed a penalty.
Martin Clarke scored a hat-trick for Britannia, but it was in vain as they lost 6-3 at home to Croftlands Park. Chris Wraighte (2), Mike Webster, Tom Pavett, Ryan Ireland and Ben Mooney were all on target for Croftlands.
Hawcoat Park reserves’ trip to Haverigg United finished in a 1-1 draw. Carl Mackay was on target for Hawcoat and Anthony Foster was the Haverigg scorer.
Barrow Celtic put Holker reserves to the sword 6-0, with Rob Johnson taking the match ball home following his thee goals. Zak Parker, Alex Hall and Hugh McParland also scored.
In the Walney derby, Vickerstown reserves beat Walney reserves 3-0 thanks to Mike Imison (2) and Brody Luxon.
Dalton United reserves came out 2-1 winners at home to Millom reserves thanks to George Akred and Fraser Shand. Andrew Woodburn got Millom’s consolation.
