READERS have shared their thoughts on plans for six electric vehicle charging points at a South Lakeland service station have been submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority.
Motor Fuel Group wants to 'diversify' its existing offer courtesy of schemes such as the one proposed at Newby Bridge service station on the A590.
A cover letter submitted by CarneySweeney on behalf of Motor Fuel Group says the company aspires 'to make it as easy to charge your vehicle as refuelling with petrol or diesel'.
The application also features three jet wash bays and a substation enclosure.
We asked our readers if they thought the plans would be beneficial, and this is what they said.
Simon Pudsey said: “The mfg chargers are usually of the 150kw variety and given the terrible charging options in the south lakes, this would be a great option. The set up at j27 of the m6 is great and I’ve just noticed that Gridserve have fast chargers at Burton now but Tebay is Tesla only.”
Paul Griffiths said: “Great location for it especially if coming off southbound motorway as there is nothing on the A590 before Ulverston.”
Phil Dowling said: “Never ever go there too expensive.”
Adam Taylor said: “Any idea what model electric chargers?”
Some readers were left concerned over increased road accidents if more traffic were to visit the site.
Paul Bundy said: “Real blackspot.”
Tracy Garnett said: “So many accidents here why encourage more trade.”
Sam Standish said: “A left turn only exit sign would be more beneficial....”
Diane Hardy said: “Totally agree. Too many accidents here.”
Julie Lightfoot said: “Said this for years, too simple though.”
Bill Clark said: “A traffic island along it allowing cars to enter from east and leave on west so no vehicle has to turn across the path of another. The traffic island should slow vehicles down.”
Pat Shaw said: “More accidents will happen, as mentioned left turn only.”
