GHOSTLY goings-on are becoming a familiar occurrence at a village pub but the latest sighting of a faceless girl has got staff feeling a little bit spooked.
Over the years spine-chilling stories of unearthly encounters at the General Burgoyne in Great Urswick have been heard but the most recent encounter has been the most frightening one yet.
At the end of his shift on Thursday January 28 James Craystone, the bar manager, had locked the pub up at midnight and was waiting outside for his lift home.
A few minutes later, as he turned to look at the door, he saw a woman in a white nightgown who had no face.
She had shoulder-length blonde hair and had nothing on her feet.
She walked to the front door of the pub and just walked straight through.
Pub owner Brian Hazlehurst. LEANNE BOLGER Brian Hazlehurst, the owner of the General Burgoyne, was so shocked by this story that he quickly took to social media to ask local people whether anyone knew anything about this lady.
He said: "Since taking over the pub five months ago a few weird things have happened.
"We have had lights go on and off and only last week a couple who were holiday-makers were eating their dinner when a cupboard they were sat next to opened and then closed.
"They were a bit shocked because it wasn't something a draught could have done."
Mr Hazlehurst, who has been in the industry for more than 20 years, has found that this pub definitely keeps him on his toes.
He said: "The previous landlord told me that a few bits and bats go on here but we didn't think it would be as much as this.
"There's definitely parts of the pub that are a bit eerie, especially outside the function room - it's always very cold there.
"A few locals have told me that they've seen things here over the years.
"It can be a bit of a spooky place."
