Daniel Harris, nine, from Dalton, has been nominated by his grandmother, Elaine Harris.
The competition, organised by the Evening Mail and Heath’s in Barrow, aims to find the most inspirational children in the area.
Miss Harris said: “His mother, my daughter, has a number of health problems and Daniel helps her do a lot of everyday things that she struggles with.”
Miss Harris said that Daniel’s younger brother, Ollie, six, suffers from a genetic condition which affects his mobility and eyesight and he also has learning difficulties.
She said: “Daniel is always there to help and shares a very special bond with him.
“I am so proud of Daniel, he is a very caring and special young man who loves his mother and brother very much.”
Ollie has microduplication which is a rare chromosome condition.
Daniel is always there to help him with things he struggles with.
Their mother, Stephanie, 27, said: “They are very close as brothers and whatever Ollie can’t do, Daniel is the first person he goes to.”
Daniel was surprised to find out that he had been nominated for the competition as he didn’t think he had done anything unusual.
The George Romney School pupil said: “I don’t mind helping my little brother as I really care about him.”
Christmas Stars is sponsored by Heath’s toy store in Dalton Road, Barrow. Two children will receive gifts from Santa at their home.
Children can be nominated with the form below for courage in the face of adversity, or for kindness to help others.
Children can be up to the age of 13 and the closing date is Monday December 14.
