THERE was a very special arrival at Dalton's zoo just in time for Christmas.
Staff at the South Lakes Safari Zoo welcomed a baby female white rhino into the world on Christmas Day.
This is the second calf to be born at the zoo in 2016. This rounds off a particularly successful year for the zoo's breeding programme - it has been eight years since two calves were born in one year.
Head zookeeper Kim Banks said: "We came in on Christmas Day and we had a newborn baby rhino."
The calf, which does not have a name yet, is the first born of 16-year-old mum Manzi.
Miss Banks continued: "She's a first-time mum and she did really well. It's a great Christmas present."
