CREWS were called out to fires in two skips at an industrial site in the early hours of this morning.
Engines from Barrow, Walney and Ulverston attended the scene of a blaze at a large recycling plant at the Wicks premises in the Sowerby Woods Industrial Estate in Park Road, Barrow, at approximately 5.25am.
Firefighters used a pump reel, a hose and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fires.
During the incident, part of the A590 between Kimberly Clark and the Park Road roundabout was closed.
A fire spokesman said it took several hours to extinguish the fires due to the skips containing "compact materials".
