THE owners of two Pit Bull Terrier dogs in Barrow have appeared in court after police applied for the dogs to be 'destroyed'.

In separate cases, Paul Kendall of Ainslie Street, Barrow; and Paul Michael Maggs, of Longway, Barrow; both appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court today.

The court heard applications from police for two Pit Bulls - one called Troy which is owned by Paul Kendall and another called Renzo which is owned by Paul Maggs, to be destroyed.

The court made orders in both cases for the dogs to be destroyed unless certain conditions are met.

Both dogs must be neutered and microchipped, kept on a lead and muzzled under control of an adult at all times in public, pay a registration fee for inclusion on the Index of Exempted Dogs and an annual third party insurance policy and cannot be sold, given away or advertised for sale.

Maggs must also install new fences at his property to prevent Renzo escaping and to put a padlock on the gate.
