The dates for waste and recycling collection in the Barrow and Furness Area over the period of Christmas and New Year, have been confirmed.

Westmorland and Furness Council have revealed that there will be some changes to the regularly scheduled refuse and recycling collection dates over the festive period, commencing Monday December 23.

If your collection day is on Tuesday December 24, it will be unaffected.

Collections on Wednesday December 25 will be moved to Friday December 27.

If your collection day is Thursday December 26, it will be moved to Saturday December 28.

Bins scheduled for collection on Friday December 27, will be picked up on Monday December 30.

If your collection day is Tuesday December 31, it will be unaffected.

If your collection day is on Wednesday January 1, Thursday January 2 or Friday January 3, it will be postponed one day.

The council is asking everyone to remember that foil and metallic type wrapping paper cannot be recycled and needs to be put in the black bin.

Any extra recycling can be left in open bags or clear bags.

Additional waste should also be placed in bags however this should not include foodstuff as this may attract vermin.

With regards to the disposal of real Christmas trees, the council advises that they can be put out with black bins and will be collected by refuse collectors.

For residents on the Green Waste scheme, real trees should be put out on the date of your next scheduled collection.

However, green waste collections will cease the week starting Monday December 23 and will resume Monday January 6.
