The people of Millom have been thanked for making the town's switch-on event a 'wonderful' success.

The festivities took place on Saturday, November 30 at Market Square, giving residents the chance to welcome the Christmas season once again.

The event was organised by Millom Town Council who reflected on the continued popularity of the event.

A spokesperson from the council said: "We would like to thank everyone who came along to the Christmas Lights Switch-On - it was wonderful to see so many of you there, coming together to celebrate the start of the festive season.

"A huge thanks to all who helped make the evening so special - your support and efforts truly brought the community spirit to life.

"Wishing you all a magical and merry festive season."

As well as the main event of the return of the Christmas lights, locals were kept entertained by traditional carols and performances from the Holborn Hill Brass Band.

And, hosted by St George's Church, people were able to get their hands on refreshments and mince pies to fight off the cold on Saturday night.

The annual Christmas tree festival, featuring over 60 festively decorated displays, is also being held by the church just off St George's Road, which will be open every Friday, September and Sunday across December between 11.30am and 4pm.

The festival is organised by Gill Greep, providing a dose of Christmas cheer as well as promoting what Millom has to offer by involving a range of local groups, schools and organisations.

She said: "It's coming along nicely and that's due to the response of the participants.

"It looks like it will be something special again this year and well worth a visit.

"Thank you to all who have participated in this year's festival - the trees are beautiful and imaginative."
