A WOMAN who showed a ‘total disregard for court orders’ has been jailed after her stalking behaviour had a ‘significant impact on her victims’.

Kayleigh Christopher, of Schooner Street, Barrow, pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking without fear/alarm/distress at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on November 22.

The court charge indicates that the 37-year-old made numerous unwanted and abusive telephone calls, text messages and Facebook posts to two different victims between May 1 2022 and August 1 2022.

Christopher was also sentenced for failing to surrender to police/court bail on September 30 this year.

Magistrates imprisoned the defendant for 26 weeks after determining the offences were ‘so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified’.

Before imposing the sentence they said the defendant had ‘a flagrant disregard for court orders’ after breaching a current community order imposed for offences dating back to 2022.

They concluded that the offending had a ‘significant impact on victims placing them in an impossible position’ for a sustained period of time.

Magistrates also imposed a three-year restraining order with provisions not to approach or contact the victims directly or indirectly by any means whatsoever, and not to post anything on social media relating to the victims.

She was also ordered to pay £250 in compensation to each victim.

No order for court costs or surcharge was made.
