A well-established café in Barrow has been nominated by The Mail readers for the Best South Cumbria Coffee Shop 2024 award almost on the eve of its 35th anniversary.

The Fig Tree is a small independent local café situated on Scott St in Barrow town centre.

Patrick Hearty runs the business with his wife Sally.

Earlier this month The Mail launched a new campaign to find the best coffee shop that South Cumbria has to offer. 

Now, The Mail readers have selected the couple's business to be in the top ten finalists.

He said: "We have owned the café for 35 years, actually 35 years in December.

"We offer a wide selection of sandwiches toasted sandwiches, baked potatoes and homemade soups.

"We pride ourselves on the fact that as much of our food as possible is prepared on the premises such as baked ham, poached chicken, homemade coleslaw, hand-grated cheese and homemade soups.

"Our bread is collected daily from a local bakery.

Two weeks of voting will now ensue with readers encouraged to pick their ultimate champion to be revealed in December.
