The full schedule has been revealed as Dalton gets ready to mark the start of the festive season.

The Christmas lights switch-on event will take place on Sunday, December 1 from 1pm until 6.30pm, with a range of activities and live entertainment transforming the town centre into fun for all the family.

It has been a long wait to see the festivities take place, since the event was cancelled last year due to a large amount of snow.

Sponsored by BAE Systems, a series of free creative workshops will be placed throughout the town, which will be suitable for all ages.

The workshops will be organised by various local organisations, including Artworks 4All, BarrowFull, and Little Rebels, and no booking is required to attend.

Providing countless death defying stunts will be the Extreme Mountain Bike Show, put together by European Mountain Bike Trials Champion, Danny Butler, and his team.

The stunt show will be based outside the castle and will run throughout the day.

At the conclusion of the last show, a procession will make its way to Tudor Square from Market Place at around 5pm, with residents encouraged to don their best festive attire to get involved.

Waiting for the parade will be a live music stage presented by CandoFM, who will also be providing entertainment across the full event.

The stage will feature a number of local artists, including the Dalton Town Band, who will help visitors get ready for the main event of the lights switch-on.

The doors at St Mary's Church will be open between 2pm and 6pm on Sunday as part of its ongoing Christmas Tree Festival.

Thanks to Dalton With Newton Town Council, attendees at the event will be able to meet a group of alpacas at Market Place, with the special visitors also making up part of the procession.

For the duration of the event, a strict no-vehicle-movement policy will be in place, with a number of road closures in effect.

Castle Street, Market Place and Tudor Square will also be completely closed, Broughton Road will be closed between the car park and Tudor Square, and Market Street and Ulverston Road will be blocked off during the parade.
