Young people are invited to launch a mental health awareness campaign in Kendal.

The event, organised by the charity Wave Forward, will be held at No-Hand’s Rest Coffee House on Sunday, December 15, from 4pm to 6pm.

Aimed at those aged 16 to 25, the event encourages participants to shape the change they wish to see in their communities.

With rates of mental health issues among 16 to 25-year-olds on the rise, and nearly one in six facing 'significant challenges', the charity wants youth voices to play a key role in driving solutions.

Wave Forward, through its youth network, The Helm, is offering a platform for creative, peer-driven campaigns that tackle mental health stigma, whilst building confidence and skills.

The Helm seeks to create a space where young people can actively contribute their ideas, opinions, and experiences.

National reports highlight a growing need for alternative provisions alongside traditional mental health services, as the current system has left many young people feeling disconnected.

There is also a lack of awareness about the support options available beyond clinical settings.

Wave Forward aims to address this gap by promoting community-driven initiatives and creativity through peer-led projects, while also offering intervention counselling and emotional support.

Those interested in participating can register via the sign-up form.

This December session offers a chance for young people to contribute their ideas and skills to improve mental health support.

Snacks, creative activities, and chill spaces will be available.

The event aims to build on the efforts of local youth, who are already taking steps to drive change in their communities.
