Storm Bert wreaked havoc across Cumbria with snow, ice, heavy rain and strong winds.

Following freezing temperatures overnight, many residents woke up to find themselves wrapped in a blanket of snow on Saturday morning.

The melting snow and heavy rains led to challenging road conditions and several routes were impassable.

Northern announced that all trains running between Barrow and Lancaster were cancelled on Sunday after flooding in the Ulverston area.

On Saturday the road at Grizebeck Brow up to Gawthwaite was impassable and flooded areas were later reported on the road between Millom and Greenodd.

By early afternoon, surface water and large puddles were reported on the roads between Millom and Ulverston, at Kirkby-in-Furness, Askam and Dalton.

Westmorland and Furness Council confirmed the A591 and A592 were flooded and their teams were working hard to clear the water.

Stagecoach buses faced delays due to the weather, and major train disruptions saw services between Barrow and Carlisle cancelled, delayed and revised.

Electricity North West was called into action as hundreds of homes were left without power for several hours.

However, Storm Bert did not affect Ulverston’s Dickensian Festival nor did it manage to deter Barrow’s Christmas Light Switch On event from taking place.
