A WOMAN caught drug driving on the A590 while nearly three times over the legal limit has been sentenced.
Rachel Christine Smith, of Market Street, Ulverston, was driving on the A590 near Meathop on May 16 this year when she was stopped by road traffic officers.
The 42-year-old complied when asked to conduct a roadside DrugWipe for analysis, which came back positive for Benzoylecgonine – the main metabolite found in cocaine.
As a result, she was arrested and taken into custody where she provided a reading for analysis of 137 ug per 100ml of blood. The legal ‘zero-tolerance’ limit is 50.
At South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on November 20, Smith was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £120 for the offence.
She was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge.
