The MP for Barrow and Furness has raised concerns about the closure of what she says is a 'vital' footbridge for villagers and tourists.

Michelle Scrogham says since the public footbridge at Ravenglass Station was closed, pedestrians now have 'no option' other than to walk under the bridge on Main Street, which is 'dark, narrow, and on a blind bend.'

She has raised the issue with Network Rail.

She said: "In response Network Rail and the local authority Highway Department met earlier this week to work on improving the safety of this alternative route which I believe will include putting in better, more robust barriers on both sides of the underpass.

"Network Rail have also moved forward their plans to repair the footbridge and I will press them to ensure that work is completed as quickly as possible."

Mrs Scrogham has a follow up meeting with Network Rail next week and says she will provide further updates.
