PLANS have been lodged to convert a ‘redundant’ Lake District chapel into a house for local people.
Harveve Ltd has submitted a planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) to convert Kirkbeck Hall in Coniston into a three-bedroom local occupancy house.
According to planning documents, the ‘redundant’ building was constructed around 1900 and has been used as a funeral directors in the past.
The design, access and heritage statement says: “The proposal will retain the simple charm and character of the building and prevent the redundant building becoming derelict.
“The building will be provided with a new lease of life and at the same time enhance and create a positive impact on the surrounding area, which is close to the centre of the built-up area of Coniston village.
“As the building is located within the built-up area of the village and externally will only have minimal change the proposal will have no effect on the beauty and harmony of the Lake District National Park and World Heritage Site.”
The planning application is under consideration by the LDNPA.
