PLANS to knock down a ‘run down’ former tourist information centre in the Lake District and construct a new sales building have been given the green light.
The Lake District National Park Authority has approved plans from Armour Systems Ltd to demolish the existing building last used by Sunshine Shakes on Victoria Street in Windermere and to construct a replacement building.
Planning documents describe the replacement building as ‘contemporary and sustainable’.
A design and access statement says the building is to act as a small sales office and display to enhance the local tourism economy and provide employment in the area.
It adds: “The design of the building is to be future-proofed to allow for flexibility and possible multi-use to sustain long-term viability.”
According to planning documents, the cladding will be ‘inspired by nature’ and will appear sympathetic to the surrounding trees.
This planning application was approved by the Lake District National Park Authority on November 19
