A LAKE District camping and caravanning site could see a major upgrade - after plans have been submitted for the expansion of the site.
Plans have been submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority to provide a number of upgrades at the Braithwaite Bridges Camping and Caravan Site in Braithwaite, Keswick.
The upgrades include the 'modernisation of the existing amenity building (including an extension on south elevation); creation of hardstanding pitches (to be used by caravans and tourers): creation of 'hybrid' pitches (to be used by tents or caravans); installation of ground mounted solar panels; erection of information boards and ancillary infrastructure associated with the operation of the site as a Camping and Caravanning Club site'.
The Camping and Caravanning Club say they hope the new plans will make the site in Braithwaite a '5 star touring site with tent pitches'.
A design and access statement said: "The site does not currently meet the high standards required by the Camping and Caravanning Club for their sites. The proposal is to bring the site up to date and make it a 5 star touring site with tent pitches."
The Camping and Caravanning Club (C & CC) purchased both the Scotgate Caravan Park in Braithwaite and Braithwaite Bridges site in 2018 before the Covid pandemic.
The Camping and Caravanning Club redeveloped the main Braithwaite site, on the edge of Braithwaite village, and this has now opened as The Braithwaite Camping and Caravanning Club site. The site is popular and has a high occupancy rate.

The design and access statement says that the Braithwaite Bridges site has been closed for the last five to six years, and the Camping and Caravanning Club would like to redevelop the site to bring it up to current standards, and also make it suitable for their requirements.
A spokesperson for The Camping and Caravanning Club, said: "We are planning developments to enhance the site to provide additional pitches and the most up-to-date facilities.
"We believe these improvements will encourage even more people to visit and enjoy everything the area has to offer. "
The plans will now go through a consultation period with the national park authority.
