Temperatures are expected to drop in Cumbria next week as colder Arctic air sweeps in.

Snow is not yet forecast in the south of Cumbria however it is likely to feel as low as minus five in some places with temperatures regularly dropping to zero in the early mornings and evenings across the region.

The weather in Windermere will be particularly harsh with temperatures peaking at five degrees on Monday November 18 and dropping to zero in the early morning of November 20.

Millom will be slightly warmed on Monday, peaking at seven degrees, before dropping to just five on Tuesday and Wednesday, compared to the 12 degrees we have seen this week.

In Barrow, temperatures will remain fairly consistent at around four and five degrees but it will regularly feel much lower due to the cold winds that will undoubtedly take their toll.

In Kendal, the temperature will peak at five degrees on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with some sunshine forecast, although it certainly won't feel warm as the temperature will consistently feel below freezing.

Meteorologist Mark Sidaway explained: "While temperatures will gradually decline through this week, there’s potential for a colder period of weather to develop from the weekend. At this range there’s still much detail to be worked out, but a more unsettled start to next week is likely, with a chance of frost and ice for some.

"This drop in temperatures heightens the chance of some snow to high ground in the north of the country, though there is still a minority of scenarios which could bring some snow to lower levels at times. Needless to say, we’ll be assessing the forecast for this period more in the coming days, but a colder spell of weather is likely, with some gusty winds also possible for some."
