A plot of land in Furness is being transformed into a community orchard to be 'cherished' for years to come.
The allotment plot has been acquired by Dalton with Newton Town Council who are aiming to provide a green space that all residents can enjoy, promoting both 'sustainability and community spirit'.
Work has already begun on clearing the overgrown site to prepare it for planting, and progress will continue steadily over the next 12 months.
A council spokesperson commented: "During this time, we will focus on creating a space that supports a wide variety of fruit trees, while also ensuring that the orchard is accessible and inviting for everyone.
"Once complete, the community orchard will be a place where residents can relax, enjoy nature, and even participate in growing fresh fruit.
"We hope that the orchard will become a cherished space for future generations, and we are grateful for the community's support and look forward to keeping residents updated as the project progresses."
