Schools in the South Cumbria Multi Academy Trust are celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week.

The Trust has organised events to nurture the pupils' vocabulary, language, and passion for music.

World Nursery Rhyme Week, which runs until November 15, is an international event that highlights the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood development.

Children from Chetwynde, Newbarns, Vickerstown, Ormsgill, Cambridge, South Walney Infants, Victoria Infant, and Ramsden schools are participating in the event.

At Ormsgill Primary and Nursery School, nursery pupils have enjoyed pirate-themed activities while learning The Big Ship Sails on the Ally Ally Oh.

They made a pirate ship, went on a treasure hunt, and walked the plank.

They have also made salt dough stars while learning Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and enjoyed washing Incy Wincy Spider down drainpipes with their watering cans outside in the playground.

"It helps us to create an environment where we can show language really is celebrated and valued."

Katie Stepanian, reception teacher and phase 1 lead at Chetwynde Primary School, is part of the network and said the group wanted to do something impactful to share good practice based around a theme across the schools and there were lots of ideas.

She said: "It is great that all the early years classes across the Trust will join to celebrate the same events and are sharing the planning.

"Suggestions came from across the group as we aim to give our pupils the best possible experience in their early education.

"We hope parents will engage with the events at home as well to support what happens in school."

The group is now organising events for World Book Day on March 6, 2025, and an outdoor family fun event in the summer term.
