A family's Ambleside holiday park has been named as England's campsite of the year by the AA.
Skelwith Fold, a 130-acre park near the shores of Windermere, beat thousands of other parks to take the national title, announced in November.
The AA judges described Skelwith Fold as 'a top-quality park in a beautiful setting' and praised its wooded grounds, nature trail, and luxury safari tents.
Owned by the Wild family for almost 30 years, Skelwith Fold was declared England's top park after a rigorous review by the AA of its facilities and services.
Henry Wild said that his family and the park team were thrilled at the news of Skelwith Fold's success.
Mr Wild said: "We feel both proud and humbled to have been selected for this amazing recognition from the AA, and it's the icing on the cake for us after a very busy season."
He added that the award was especially meaningful as they were assessed not only on the quality of their offerings, but also the friendliness, hospitality, and warmth of welcome extended to visitors.
He said: "Delivering this is very much in the hands of our park team, so they must take a big share of the credit for ensuring that guests always enjoy the best possible experience."
The majority of Skelwith Fold’s visitors are either repeat guests or come as a result of personal recommendations.
The news from the AA came just as Skelwith Fold was closing for the winter in November.
Earlier this year, the park scooped Cumbria Tourism's holiday park of the year accolade, and has also won awards for its care of the natural world and sustainable development policies.
Recent investments by the Wild family in the park have included new luxury glamping facilities and additional solar technology to generate its own energy.
Skelwith Fold will open again in March.
More information about the park and its various accommodation options is available on Skelwith Fold's website.
