Remembrance services across south Cumbria proved the 'commitment' of the community to honouring the sacrifices made in the country's name.

A large number of people came out in their respective towns to pay their respects to fallen soldiers, veterans and actively serving personnel on Sunday.

In Millom, this saw a procession start from the Harbour Hotel at 2.30pm, with the parade making its way to the Haverigg Church Cenotaph.

A spokesperson from the Town Council commented: "We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone in the Millom and Haverigg community who attended the Remembrance Day service.

"It was inspiring to see such a high turnout, a testament to our community’s commitment to honouring those who sacrificed so much.

"A special thank you to the local organisations, schools, veterans, and to Cumbrian Heavy Horses for bringing two beautiful horses, which added a unique and moving presence to the service.

"Together, we remember their bravery and dedication. Lest we forget."

Thanks in part to Diane Harris, poppy displays were also created at Haverigg and at the war memorial in Millom to help mark the occasion.

The Mayor of Ulverston, Councillor Graham Scrogham, detailed the 'great privilege' he was given of laying wreaths at both Ulverston and Barrow.

He added that it was 'heartening' to see so many people at both ceremonies honouring those who 'gave everything'.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Shirley-Anne Wilson, meanwhile, commended residents for their behaviour during the event.

She said: "Great respect shown to all the fallen yesterday in Ulverston from our residents.

"Thanks to police, marshals and the town council officers who organised the event."
