A cat that was believed to be a stray has returned to its owner in Cumbria after an amazing two and a half years.

Luna the cat had been watched over by a kind woman from Mealbank, Kendal after the 'stray' had been 'hanging around' for a number of months.

She approached the Westmorland Branch of the RSCPA as she began to become concerned for the feline with the winter months coming along.

This concern lead to a very happy outcome however.

Speaking on its Facebook yesterday (November 7), a spokesperson for the Westmorland Branch said: "

"We had no space at the time so we asked her had she had it checked for a chip, she hadn't so we lent her one of our scanners and luckily it showed up the chip number.

"Back at the office we looked up who the chip was registered to and phoned a very happy owner and put the two in contact.

"As you can see she has settled back into home life very well.

"Cats can get into vehicles which is how they think Luna got to Mealbank in the first place and can end up miles from home."
