Children setting fire to a community asset in Walney would have caused 'significant damage' without police intervention.
The Barrow Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said a large group of youths set fire to a 'load of wood and plastic' at the football field on Mill Lane on Bonfire Night.
A spokesperson from the NPT added: [The football field] is a community asset - had police not intervened and put out, [the fire] would have caused significant damage to the pitch.
However, the youths, not content with this, think it's acceptable to shout abuse and make threats to launch fireworks at officers.
"Fortunately, the attendance of the police dog soon had them dispersing away."
The NPT used the incident to remind parents to always know where their children are.
