PLANS have been lodged to convert office space in Barrow into a house in multiple occupancy (HMO).
Forth Action Invest has submitted a planning application to Westmorland and Furness Council to convert the ground floor and first floor of 35 Ainslie Street into a six-bedroom HMO.
The property consists of office space on the ground floor and a two-bedroom flat for three people on the first floor.
Prior approval was previously granted by the former Barrow Borough Council to convert the office space into residential use and the applicant began works under the assumption that further planning permission would not be required for the conversion of the property into an HMO, the cover letter states.
The cover letter adds: “Due to the misunderstanding with the previous application, the applicant has now instructed us to formally submit a new application for converting the ground-floor office and first-floor flat into a 6- bedroom HMO.
“Works have begun but have halted whilst the planning confusion is rectified.”
In the plans, the applicant proposes the installation of six bike storage spaces in the HMO.
The cover letter says: “Our intention is to actively promote the use of public transport and cycling as the primary modes of transportation for residents.
“This approach aligns with our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting a more sustainable and eco-friendly community.”
This planning application is undergoing public consultation.
