Changes to the Winter Fuel Allowance could affect many residents, Citizens Advice Barrow has warned.
The charity and Michelle Scrogham MP met last week to discuss how the government's recent announcement to "means-test" the Winter Fuel Payment could impact residents.
Means-testing would mean that those eligible for pension credit will still get payments in full.
However, pension credit is an underclaimed benefit and many residents may be unaware they are eligible.
Ms Scrogham, who was elected as the new MP for Barrow and Furness in July, said: "I know that many residents are worried about their bills this winter.
"I would encourage anyone who is concerned to contact me or the team at Citizens Advice Barrow who are experts on the benefits system and what support is available.
"I will be working closely with Citizens Advice Barrow and I am hosting a series of advice surgeries to support local people this winter."
Citizens Advice Barrow, a local independent charity based at Ramsden Hall on Abbey Road, is a part of the wider national Citizens Advice network.
In the last year, the team has supported more than 2,500 residents with more than 14,000 different issues relating to benefits, debt, financial crisis, family issues, housing, and employment.
The service is free, confidential, independent, and impartial.
Joanna Young, chief executive, said: "We know that many people are worried about their bills as the colder weather approaches.
"If you, or someone you know, is concerned about losing their Winter Fuel Allowance, or any other problems with benefits, debt, housing or money worries, please get in touch with us for help and advice."
