A hospice in Ulverston is celebrating a 'remarkable' achievement after this year's Great North Run.

Taking place in September, the annual event saw over 57,000 runners from around the world gather to participate in one of the most iconic half marathons.

This week, St Mary's Hospice revealed that, following the efforts of a certain number of participants, a total of £23,153.93 has been donated to their cause.

Mel Dixon, Events and Challenges Manager at the Hospice, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the Great North Run in support of St Mary’s Hospice.

"It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know such a dedicated and inspiring team over the last nine months.

"Your hard work, resilience, and generosity have made an incredible difference, and I couldn't be prouder of what we've achieved together - thank you for every step, every training session, and every donation!”

This 'remarkable' achievement will directly fund compassionate, high-quality care for patients and their families navigating life-limiting illnesses throughout the community.

Every contribution, from generous corporate donations to individual sponsors, has played a vital role in enabling St Mary’s Hospice to continue its mission of compassionate care.

Many participants trained rigorously for months leading up to the event, balancing demanding work schedules, family life, and the intense preparation necessary for a half-marathon.
