A community church is preparing to host an organ concert and Remembrance Day service.

Dalton Community Church on Market Street will hold the 'Organ Serenade 2024' on Saturday, November 9, at 2.30pm.

The concert follows the success of a similar event in autumn 2023 which celebrated the restoration of the church's pipe organ.

Margaret Harrison will open the concert with Bach's Toccata in D minor.

Guest organist Mark Latimer will play Mendelssohn's War March of the Priests.

Reverend Kate Hunt, a soprano, will sing arias by Purcell and Handel, accompanied by Ms Harrison.

Violinists Karen Wells and Janet Johnson will perform violin and organ pieces including Albinoni’s Adagio.

The concert will conclude with music associated with Remembrance Day.

After the event, tea and cakes will be served.

Admission is free but donations to support work on the church’s Market Street sycamore trees are welcome.

The church will also host Dalton's town Remembrance Service on Sunday, November 10 at 9.30am.

This service will be followed by a parade which starts at Tudor Square at 10.30am and ends at the War Memorial on Station Road.

A short service will lead into the two-minute silence at 11am.
