An annual series of Christmas events is returning to Cumbria to pay tribute to people's loved ones.

The 'Light Up a Life' events are organised by St Mary's Hospice, which encourages people to dedicate a light to someone they have lost, which will then be placed on a tree as part of the services.

The events will be taking place at St Paul's Church in Barrow on December 5, St Mary's Parish Church in Ulverston on December 7, and Cartmel Priory on December 15.

A spokesperson from the hospice said: "Christmas is a time to gather with family and friends, a season filled with warmth and togetherness.

"Yet, for those who have lost someone dear, the absence can feel especially profound—the empty chair at the table, the gift left unpurchased.

"By dedicating a light, you’ll be supporting St Mary’s Hospice in providing compassionate care to those most in need."
