A THAI restaurant in Dalton believes it must be 'doing something right' after it received an award nomination.

Earlier this month, The Mail began its search for the best curry house of 2024, building on the success of other recent award campaigns.

This saw readers nominate their favourite places when it comes to a bit of spice with 10 finalists named from those results.

Over the next two weeks, those finalists will be vying for your vote, which you can submit by picking up a copy of The Mail before Saturday, November 9.

Running alongside the contest will be a series of special features about each of the nominated businesses, celebrating the people who are putting the local area on the food map.

We come to Dalton on this occasion where Nicha's Thai Kitchen on Market Street has been honouring the culture since November 2018.

Owner and head chef Rattanawadee Satterthwaite said: "I love to cook for family and friends - it's a big part of the Thai culture.

"So after lots of positive feedback, I thought it would be worth trying to make a business from something I enjoyed doing - and here we are almost six years later."

For Rattanawadee, the award nomination means more because it has come from the local community.

"I think the fact that it has come about through recommendations from the public is probably the most pleasing part," said Rattanawadee.

"It shows that people have obviously had us in mind so we must be doing something right."

Business has been 'steady and solid' since the kitchen first started serving locals, barring the struggles seen during the Covid pandemic.

"We adapted and came through it like most did and are grateful to enjoy a healthy following of regular customers," Rattanawadee added. 

"As long as the demand is there, we will continue to provide fresh, authentic Thai food for people to enjoy."
