A FILM and TV star from the Lake District won a best actress award and has confirmed she will appear in the upcoming series of the hit Netflix show Black Mirror.
Hannah Griffiths, 22, grew up in Windermere and only moved to London in recent months to pursue her acting and directing ambitions. After appearing as an extra in CBBC when she was a child, Hannah got her first break on BBC Three horror series Red Rose in 2022.
Despite never going to film school or acting college, only taking classes in the north-west, Hannah has carved out a career for herself and won best actress this month at the British Urban Film Festival for her role in The Deal.
Hannah said this win means that The Deal can now be submitted for the British Academy Film Awards, known as the BAFTAs.
"We filmed that in the beginning of 2023 and we've been having a big festival run with this film for quite a while," she said. The Deal is a short film directed by Ed Palmer in which she plays a young offender called Brooke, who meets a psychiatrist played by Meryl Griffiths (no relation).

Hannah also revealed she is going to be a supporting character in an upcoming episode of the hit Netflix sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror.
Hannah could not give further details of her role in the seventh series of the show, which is currently in post-production and set to release in 2025, but she said she had met creator Charlie Brooker.
"I think as an actor you always prepare for the next thing," she said. "You have got to understand there's always going to be high points and low points. You have got to be so determined.
Black Mirror started as a Channel 4 production in 2011 and has since evolved into a flagship series for Netflix. It attracts high audience figures drawn to its overarching theme of the role of technology in modern or potential future societies. The episodes range from dark comedy to horror in tone, meaning that it is unclear what type of role Hannah will present in the show.
