A new award has been set up to find and celebrate the community heroes of a south Cumbrian town.
Organised by Cartmel Primary School, found on Aynsome Road, the Pride of Cartmel awards were officially launched this week on Tuesday, October 22.
As part of the school's curriculum, pupil's get to learn about 'the people who help us', with the school now looking to expand this to also include the local community.
The award is designed to help Cartmel Primary publicly recognise the people that help make the village a 'great place to live and work'.
There will be three categories as part of the award, celebrating different aspects of what it means to support the local area.
These are:
-
The Community Hero Award for people who go to 'remarkable lengths' to help others
-
The Business in the Community award to recognise the work of local companies who are going above and beyond to make Cartmel an enjoyable place to visit
-
The Community Fundraiser of the Year, acknowledging 'tireless and inspirational' charity work across the past 12 months
The school is inviting local clubs, groups and individuals to nominate 'amazing individuals' of all ages to be considered for the 'Pride of Cartmel' awards.
Nominations will need to include details as to why the person or business is so deserving of the recognition, along with any extra information that could sway the judging panel.

Nominations will close on Friday, November 15, with the children themselves being tasked with sifting through all the applications.
Following this, all those who are shortlisted will be invited to a special award ceremony at the school in January, where the winners will be announced.
If there is anyone that you or a group that you represent believe is deserving of the new award, then you can use the online voting form here or you can email admin@cartmel.cumbria.sch.uk to request a form by email or post.
