A recurring sinkhole problem in south Cumbria has resulted in the closure of a car park.
Millom Town Council shared on Friday, October 25 that the car park at Haverigg Park will be closed for the 'foreseeable' future as a result of the issue.
The decision came about through the repeated emergence of a sinkhole at the site, with the town council stating that the closure had to happen due to 'safety concerns'.
The Main Street area of Haverigg has seen the presence of sinkholes on various occasions in the past, with the coastguard also having to respond to one on Haverigg Beach back in 2020.
A sinkhole is a depression or hole in the ground caused by some form of collapse of the surface layer.
