A 50p coin depicting a beloved Beatrix Potter character has been given an asking price of £10,000.

The item is being sold on eBay for 20,000 times its original face value and is located in Doncaster.

The coin features Mr Jeremy Fisher, whose starring book was released back in July 1906 as a love letter from Potter to the Lake District.

Fisher would go on to feature in a series of letters penned by Potter to young fans, whilst the character has gone on to be immortalised in artwork and porcelain figures.

Originally minted in 2017, the coin also comes with the expected depiction of HRH Queen Elizabeth II on the back. 

The coin belongs to the Decimal Coinage category and is part of the British Coins and UK Coins collection.

Despite the fact that the item has a much more recent history than the amphibious character it celebrates, the coin has become a well sought after collectable.

Just this week, a similar coin fetched a price of £7,999 after being sold from Abingdon and others in the past have brought profits of nearly £50,000.

At the time of writing, the current listing is asking for £10,000 or the best offer, with one having already being sold previously by the owner.

Buying the item would come with a £8.35 postage, though there is also the option to pick it up in person from its present home in Doncaster.
