The search has started for this year's community hero who will switch on the Christmas lights in Barrow.

The switch-on event will take place on Saturday, November 23, with someone now needed to do the honour of turning the lights on.

Last year, the honour went to nine-month-old Louis McKenna, who lit up Barrow alongside sister Annabelle and Mum and Dad, Bethan and Conor.

A spokesperson from the Barrow-in-Furness Christmas Light Switch-on event said: "Nominations are invited for individuals of all ages or groups that you feel are our unsung community heroes and could do with some recognition.

"The only stipulation is they must be associated with Barrow and have not already been our switch on star."

You can put forward the name of a person or group by messaging the switch-on team via their Facebook page.

This year's event is once again being made possible by support from Spirit Energy.
