PLANS to convert a house in Ambleside into holiday apartments have been turned down over concerns the proposals would cause ‘noise and disturbance’.
The Lake District National Park Authority has refused a planning application from Mr C Wear to convert Devonshire House on Rothay Road into four holiday apartments and a local occupancy flat.
A decision notice issued by national park planners says the regular changeovers and activity at the holiday apartments would result in ‘noise and disturbance’.
It adds: “Insufficient information has been presented to demonstrate that these impacts would not have an unacceptable impact on the living conditions of the occupant of the proposed local needs apartment.”
The property is described in planning documents as a ‘large traditionally built Lakeland house’ which has nine bedrooms.
The design and access statement says: “Given the apartments proximity to the town centre they are ideal for visitors arriving on public transport or on foot as hikers.”
Planning documents added neighbouring properties have ‘largely’ been converted into apartments or holiday lets.
This planning application was refused on October 18.
