A BARROW man has been ordered to pay over £1,200 to a court after he caught driving while over twice the legal alcohol limit.
Craig Mcilvogue, of Moor Tarn Lane on Walney, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to drink driving when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on October 14.
The court charge indicates Mcilvogue – age 34 – was stopped by road traffic officers in his BMW on Moor Tarn Lane on September 22 this year.
Officers arrested the defendant for the offence after he provided a positive roadside breathalyser test.
Inquiries revealed Mcilvogue exceeded the prescribed limit after providing a lowest reading of 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit for drink driving is 35 microgrammes.
Magistrates fined the defendant £807 and disqualified Mcilvogue from driving for 20 months.
He was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £323 surcharge - giving a total of £1,215 to pay.
Mcilvogue was offered the opportunity to complete a drink driving rehabilitation course which would reduce the disqualification by a period of 20 weeks.
