The A595 will be closed this weekend for utility works that are part of a Westmorland and Furness Council's multi-million-pound investment into the route.
On Saturday 19 and Sunday, October 20, the A595 will be under full road closure between the Community Hall at Grizebeck and Dove Ford Farm for the diversion of a United Utilities water main.
The works will be carried out over the weekend to minimise the impact on road users, taking account of school traffic, commuters, and goods vehicle operating times, said the council.
Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass with assistance from the site operatives during normal working hours.
The signed diversion route for vehicles will be via the A5092, A590 and A595 through Greenodd, Ulverston and Askam in Furness.
A council spokesperson added: "We understand this closure will cause some inconvenience, and thank you for your paintence and cooperation with following the diversion route."
