SCHOOL governors are 'confident' it can improve after being branded 'inadequate' by Ofsted.
A monitoring inspection took place at Millom Infant School on Lapstone Road on July 11 and 12 earlier this year after a graded inspection in June 2023.
The findings said the school 'remains inadequate and requires special measures' and that leaders have made 'insufficient progress' to improve.

As a result of the latest report, the school is not allowed to appoint any early career teachers before the next monitoring inspection.
The Governing Body of Millom Infant School said: "We as a governing body would like to acknowledge how hard the school has worked towards the improvement of the school.
"We are aware the school has not made the expected progress to change the outcome of the inspection quickly enough - however, progress has and continues to be made in the right direction.
"A new curriculum has already been introduced to accelerate progress and, with the support of a new Executive Head and continued support from the Local Authority, we are confident the school will be successful."

The Ofsted report said the school had 'started on its journey of improvement' but that the work still needed is 'significant and challenging'.
It added: "The school does not understand how to make effective changes to its work - this has meant that improvements, such as in its leadership of subjects, have not gone far enough.
"The school is over-reliant on external help and is not well placed to improve further."
The school has 'successfully established' a new library and incorporated 'attractive' book areas in classrooms, though pupils' engagement in reading was still said to require improvement.
The new headteacher of Millom Infant School joined on September 1, meaning they were not present for the most recent inspection.
