A group in Walney are aiming to make refugees more comfortable in Furness through the power of food.

Art Gene are offering a two-week residency at their outdoor project space, 'Allotment Soup', to an artist to work with the local refugee community.

This will see the artist explore traditional recipes from the refugees' home countries and adapt them with locally sourced ingredients.

The artist will lead a series of five engagement sessions designed to 'gather stories, cooking techniques, and the cultural significance of food', with support from Art Gene's creative gardener Bethan Pettitt and local cook Russ Dean.

The results of these sessions will contribute to a community recipe book, which will document the stories of volunteers at Art Gene, their chosen dishes, and the artist's work.

The project will culminate in sprint next year with a seed planting session, followed by a celebratory feast.
