COUNCILLORS are set to decide whether a café in south Cumbria can sell alcohol until 11.30pm.
Members of the licensing sub-committee for Westmorland and Furness Council will decide whether to grant a premises licence to Rivers and Roads on Park Road in Milnthorpe when they meet on October 21 at Kendal Town Hall.
The business has applied to the council to be able to sell alcohol until 11.30pm, as well as to remain open and play music until midnight.
According to a report prepared for the committee, the application has received 19 objections, with one comment in support of the application.
Objectors raise concerns regarding potential noise from the premises with one resident labelling the proposed opening hours ‘entirely unsuitable’.
Another says: “The prospect of music, whether live or recorded, being played until late at night is a worry. Also, the noise made by people leaving the premises towards midnight is likely to disturb the peace and quiet.”
However, in the application form, the business states ‘suitable’ notices will be displayed at entrances and exits requesting customers to keep the noise down when smoking or leaving the premises.
The application form adds windows, and external doors will be kept closed between 10pm and midnight except for the immediate access and egress of people.
