BARROW AFC is hoping to ‘bring the town together’ this December with the launch of the club's inaugural Christmas Markets event in the town centre.

The club is working in conjunction with Barrow Business Improvement District and the Barrow AFC Foundation to create a free Christmas Markets extravaganza on Portland Walk between 4pm to 9pm on December 6 (Friday).

There will be appearances from Barrow AFC’s First Team Manager Stephen Clemence along with all of the players as well as live music, giveaways, seasonal food and drink stalls and Christmas items from local vendors to buy throughout the day.

The event is to be headlined by three-piece English indie soul band Skinny Living from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, who are touring around the country having released their debut album earlier this year.

Alisha Henry, chief operating officer at Barrow AFC, said: “We’re hoping to make it an annual event but this is our first one. We’re trying to take it away from the football club itself so that it’s for the whole community in the town and not just football fans.

“We have the Christmas Light Switch On in December but there’s not really any other events in Barrow.

“Christmas Markets are in other towns and cities all the way through the month so we wanted to bring a little bit of that to Barrow. We want to create something that brings footfall to the town centre.

“It’s all about bringing the town together and making more of a splash in the community.

“Our main aim is to give everybody a big night of fun this Christmas time.

“This is just the start of our community events that we have planned. Going forward, we want to work with the council and key stakeholders in the town to make Barrow AFC more of a community club.

“It’s going to be a really exciting time. We hope everyone can join us.”
