A Cumbrian couple who met on a student film set in New York City celebrated a ‘perfect’ wedding day.
Caroline Snape, a 29-year-old English teacher from Blackburn, married Peter Sikkens, a 33-year-old Physics teacher from Bolsward in The Netherlands.
The couple, who live in Brampton, tied the knot on Saturday July 27.
The secondary school educators first met on a student film set in New York when Caroline was acting and Peter was a member of the crew.
“It was an incredibly cold day, and he offered me some biscuits to keep warm,” Caroline said, “A sure way to my heart. We both liked our shared sense of humour and extreme nerd levels.”
The pair got engaged on a ‘very wet day’ in the Lake District. They were admiring the monument at Friar’s Crag when Peter got down on one knee.
Caroline said: “Instant yes! It was definitely a surprise but a brilliant one.”
The happy couple were married at Askham Hall in front of around 70 of their family and friends.
They chose the ‘absolutely stunning’ hall as the place for their special day because it has ‘so much character’.

“They were so friendly but came with such practiced experience of running what can be a stressful day that we knew we were in safe hands,” Caroline said.
Caroline shared some of the special moments from the big day, including a ‘chilled’ and ‘lovely’ time getting ready with her bridesmaids, mum, auntie and mother-in-law.
“It was good to have that time with them in the morning because once the day is started it goes by so quickly," she said.
“Getting into my Emma Beaumont dress was so exciting - it all fell into place once that was on.”
As they walked to the barn where the ceremony would take place, the weather dried up and the sun began to peek out from the clouds.
Caroline remembers seeing Peter at the end of the aisle. “We were both so happy,” she said.
They made lots of personal additions to make the ceremony specific to them.
Caroline said: “It was wonderful and perfect and everything we wanted it to be."
Once the ‘key part of the day’ was over, the couple were able to celebrate with a drinks reception on the lawn and an ‘excellent’ wedding breakfast before some ‘fab’ speeches.

“The evening celebrations were just so much fun,” Caroline said. “Dancing, more food, a photo booth, and a glorious weather evening.”
The newlyweds celebrated with a two-part honeymoon and spent two weeks touring Sicily, seeing the sights and going to the beach, before enjoying a ‘stunning’ week in Lindisfarne.
Mr and Mrs Sikkens would like to thank their parents, bridesmaids Elizabeth, Yasmin, and Erica for being the best friends anyone could ask for, the groomsmen for their excellent speech, ring bearing and being wonderful friends as well as Emma Beaumont for dress design and creation, Emma Tebbey for styling and coordination, the Floralistas for the ‘best flower arch ever seen’, photographer Tiree Dawson for capturing the day, Wayne from Green Biscuit for videography, dog sitter Emily for chaperoning ‘sweet but nervous’ rescue dog Pippin, and finally the ‘incredible’ wedding team at Askham who were ‘fab’ from start to finish.
