A NEW police operation has resulted in multiple arrests, stop and searches and intel submissions from the public in South Cumbria.

Operation Enhance was launched by Cumbria Constabulary three months ago to put extra police patrols in areas identified as hotspots for anti-social behaviour which blight communities.

This can range from youths carrying out criminal damage to putting in doors to shutting down drug dealing operations.

The operation also helps to identify serious violence across the county from arson, robbery and violence including sexual assaults - to ensure the safety of communities.

Since its induction, officers have made 12 arrests, 24 stop and searches and had 76 intel submissions from the public in the South Lakes area alone.

The operation has been made possible thanks to £1 million of extra funding secured by Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund to target anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence in hotspot areas across the county.
